Keanu Reeves Donated 70% Of His Salary From ‘The Matrix’ For Cancer Research

Reeves reportedly offered $10 million upfront for the 1999 sci-fi thriller while receiving an additional $35 million when the film became a box office success. Leukemia research received around $31.6 million. The gift was presented when Reeves’ younger sister, Kim, was fighting illness. In 1991, Kim was stricken with blood cancer. Reeves even established a charitable organization to assist cancer patients. He had opted not to have his name attached to the charity because he intended to administer it secretly. In addition, Reeves is said to have auctioned off a 15-minute virtual Zoom meeting in 2020 to generate money for youngsters suffering from terrible conditions.

The 57-year-old Resurrections star gave up to 70% of his initial Matrix film income to cancer research. According to the New York Post, Reeves was paid $10 million ahead for the breakthrough 1999 sci-fi picture before collecting another $35 million when it became a box office smash. Seventy percent of those profits equated to $31.6 for leukemia research. After his sister’s remission, he donated to leukemia research. He has established his private cancer charity, although he has been unassuming about it. In 2009, he allegedly told Ladies Home Journal that he did not want to title his organization after himself, as some other celebs do when they start humanitarian ventures. John Wick  has also volunteered his services to charitable telethons, leveraging his popularity to inspire people to donate and aid critical causes. According to ANI, the successful bidder spent well over $19,000 for the date with the Hollywood A-lister, although the encounter would have been brief and most likely platonic.
