Barbara Higgins ɢᴀᴠᴇ ʙɪʀᴛʜ ᴛᴏ ᴀ sᴏɴ ᴀᴛ 57, nearly five years after she and her husband ᴇɴᴅᴜʀᴇᴅ the ᴅᴇᴀᴛʜ of their 13-year-ᴏʟᴅ daughter.
The inspiration for their second child came in the wake of ʜᴇᴀʀᴛʙʀᴇᴀᴋ. Their daughter, Molly, ᴅɪᴇᴅ sᴜᴅᴅᴇɴʟʏ at 13 in 2016 from ᴄᴏᴍᴘʟɪᴄᴀᴛɪᴏɴs from ᴀɴ ᴜɴᴅᴇᴛᴇᴄᴛᴇᴅ ʙʀᴀɪɴ ᴛᴜᴍᴏʀ. In the wake of Molly’s ᴅᴇᴀᴛʜ, Higgins started having dreams of another baby.
Aɢᴇ is nothing but a number for one New Hampshire teacher who recently welcomed a baby boy into the world. Barbara Higgins, 57, gave birth to a healthy baby boy named Jack on March 20 after ᴜɴᴅᴇʀɢᴏɪɴɢ ⒾⓋⒻ ᴛʀᴇᴀᴛᴍᴇɴᴛ with her husband Kenny Banzhoff. She said :” That’s a little ᴄʀᴀᴢʏ . But, I started having these dreams that I wanted to have a child, sometimes the voice in my dream would call me ‘Mummy,’ other times the voice in my dream would call me Barbara. It was a pretty persistent dream. I’d wake up with an ᴏᴠᴇʀʀɪᴅɪɴɢ Fᴇᴇʟɪɴɢ that I need to have another child. I was 53 at the time.”
Getting ᴘʀᴇɢɴᴀɴᴛ in your ᴍɪᴅ-50s ᴄᴇʀᴛᴀɪɴʟʏ ɪsɴ’ᴛ ᴇᴀsʏ. And the couple was able to get ᴘʀᴇɢɴᴀɴᴛ through ɪɴ-ᴠɪᴛʀᴏ Fᴇʀᴛɪʟɪᴢᴀᴛɪᴏɴ after visiting Cᴀʀᴅᴏɴᴇ Rᴇᴘʀᴏᴅᴜᴄᴛɪᴠᴇ Mᴇᴅɪᴄɪɴᴇ ᴀɴᴅ IɴFᴇʀᴛɪʟɪᴛʏ ɪɴ Bᴏsᴛᴏɴ. She said :” Actually for me, the process was one relatively easy step after another. I know it’s not that way for all women, but for me the path just sort of presented itself. I kind of went, ‘Oʜ ᴍʏ ɢᴏsʜ,’ but I got on board. It’s been quite a journey. It’s been wonderful.” She credits her healthy lifestyle and sᴛʀɪᴄᴛ ᴇxᴇʀᴄɪsᴇ ʀᴇɢɪᴍᴇ with ᴋᴇᴇᴘɪɴɢ ʜᴇʀ Fɪᴛ, and thinks this may have helped her get ᴘʀᴇɢɴᴀɴᴛ. She continued to lift weights right up until before her ʟᴀʙᴏʀ. She added:”We were doing a lot of ᴇxᴛʀᴀ ʙʟᴏᴏᴅ work, a lot of extra office ᴠɪsɪᴛs, ᴜʟᴛʀᴀsᴏᴜɴᴅs things that we would do for anyone who’s ᴏʟᴅᴇʀ, to make sure things are going smoothly.”
The couple admit they didn’t even tell people about the ᴘʀᴇɢɴᴀɴᴄʏ until they were halfway through, and the ʀᴇᴀᴄᴛɪᴏɴs ᴡᴇʀᴇ ᴍɪxᴇᴅ. Barbara said :” Exᴘʀᴇssɪᴏɴʟᴇss. Staring at me. And we didn’t tell anybody anything. And I didn’t tell anybody when I was ᴘʀᴇɢɴᴀɴᴛ until I was 20 weeks in, pretty much. So I would make this sort of announcement, ‘Hey I have something to tell you, I’m 20 weeks ᴘʀᴇɢɴᴀɴᴛ with a baby boy,’ and just…silence.”
So happy, on March 20 was born a month ᴘʀᴇᴍᴀᴛᴜʀᴇ, weighed five pounds 13 ounces, and is now back home and doing well after spending three days at the ʜᴏsᴘɪᴛᴀʟ where he was ᴅᴇʟɪᴠᴇʀᴇᴅ. As for having a child at 57, which makes her ᴛʜᴇ ᴏʟᴅᴇsᴛ ᴡᴏᴍᴀɴ ᴛᴏ ᴇᴠᴇʀ ɢɪᴠᴇ ʙɪʀᴛʜ ɪɴ Nᴇᴡ Hᴀᴍᴘsʜɪʀᴇ. Looking back, they’re so glad they did. Barbara said :”Jack is here, he’s a little boy on ᴛʜᴇ ᴘʟᴀɴᴇᴛ, and he gets to live a life, everything made sense. Who knows how I’ll be in 10 years, but who knows how you’ll be in 10 years?” And Higgins said:” And why should Jack not get to be ᴀʟɪᴠᴇ just because I’m ᴏʟᴅ?
