Hyundai HB20 2023 sedan and hatchback: restyling and new look.
The HB abbreviation in the name of these cars means Hyundai Brasil.
Index HB20 belongs to the first and so far the only model of the Korean brand, which has been developed specifically for Brazil.
In terms of the chassis and a number of units, the «twenty» is unified with the Accent/Solaris family, but otherwise it is a truly original development that has no analogues in other countries.
Since 2019, the second-generation Hyundai HB20 family is produced in Brazil, and now it has undergone a major restyling.
The hatchback was shown back in July, and now the restyled HB20S sedan has arrived.
The appearance has changed dramatically. If earlier Hyundai HB20 had light-hearted image of a small youth car, now its lines are more strict than solid automobiles.
The front part of the body is completely new, including the hood and fenders, and the front overhang has become 50 mm longer.
However, LED running lights are still due only to expensive versions: «in the base» they are with regular bulbs.
The front end is also changed: the sedan and hatchback now have united rear lights.
The four-door has also moved the license plate area — now it is on the trunk lid.
All bodied metamorphosis increased length of the sedan by 65 mm (to 4325 mm), while the hatchback added 75 mm (to 4015 mm).
The top versions got new 16-inch wheels, and in the sedan and hatchback they have different design.
The interior is updated to a much lesser extent. There are only different trim materials, and the expensive versions have a completely digital instrument cluster.
The budget solution with a compact central screen (4.2 inches) and simple side scales are used.
Media system — with the former eight-inch screen, but with updated menus and interfaces Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
In the basic configuration, as before, there are six airbags and ESP.
New options include climate control (previously there was only regular air conditioning) and remote engine start system (with the button on the remote).
The systems of automatic braking, road marking tracking and blind spot monitoring are also retained.
There are no technical changes: HB20 is equipped only with a three-cylinder 1.0 liter engine.
The naturally aspirated version produces 80 hp and is combined only with a five-speed manual.
And turbo version 1.0 TGDI develops 120 hp and is combined with a six-speed «automatic», although the hatchback can be ordered with a six-speed manual gearbox.
The five-door Hyundai HB20 has already hit the Brazilian market, with prices starting at $14,800.
The HB20S sedan will appear at dealers in September at a price of $16,600.
A cross-hatchback Hyundai HB20X was excluded from the range at the end of last year — it was the most expensive version in the range and the only one with a four-cylinder 1.6 motor.
Sales of these cars were sluggish, although the base HB20 last year took second place in the absolute ranking of sales in Brazil: 86,000 cars were sold.
So, there will be no more «crossover» in the restyled range.
