Identical quadruplets were born at the Leipzig University Hospital after a pair of twins. They have two identical sisters, both age 4. The clinic revealed on Thursday that the quadruplets—two boys and two girls—were delivered through C-section on Maundy Thursday. The infants, Helen, Boas, Merle, and Pepe, as well as their 28-year-old mother, are all doing well. The four healthy pre.mature babies would have met their parents and the delivery room staff with a birth weight of between 660 and 1285 grams.
“All four started screaming immediately,” said mother Juliane Stejskal, who is at home in Kirchberg near Zwickau with her husband Tobias, who is also 28 years old. With the quadruplets, the young family doubles. The two big sisters, Leoni and Nora, are four years old.
With the exception of little Pepe, the smallest at 660 grams, the newborns were able to leave the ᴇᴀʀʟʏ-ᴄᴀʀᴇ ᴡᴀʀᴅ for the normal ᴡᴀʀᴅ, according to the university hospital. Pepe still has to grow a bit. But all the children whose mother was born in the 31st calendar week are totally on schedule. They would all do without ʙʀᴇᴀᴛʜɪɴɢ ᴀɪᴅs and would only have to stay in the hospital for a few more weeks. According to the ᴄʟɪɴɪᴄ, it was an uncomplicated pregnancy and birth for quadruplets.
It was not until 2012 that quadruplets – identical girls at the time – were born at the ᴄʟɪɴɪᴄ. In contrast to this year’s quadruplets, they were created without ᴍᴇᴅɪᴄᴀʟ sᴜᴘᴘᴏʀᴛ. According to the information, there had been no quadruplets there for 30 years before that. According to Holger Stepan, director of the ᴄʟɪɴɪᴄ’s ᴏʙsᴛᴇᴛʀɪᴄs department, the five-year ʙʀᴇᴀᴋ fits into the multiple birth ʙᴏᴏᴍ. There have already been 52 twin births this year, compared to 102 in all of last year.
The parents of the new Leipzig quadruplets are happy about the amount of help that is offered to them. Papa Tobias, who works as a painter at VW, was ʀᴇʟᴇᴀsᴇᴅ so that he could be with his family. Parents and sisters are currently living in the Ronald McDonald House in Leipzig in order to be able to see the youngest offspring every day.
