Proposed Trade Reunites Draymond Green With Kevin Durant On Suns

The Phoenix Suns failed to meet expectations this NBA season, and after another second-round playoff exit, the team is ready to make some drastic decisions to face the 2023-24 season at the best level.

After parting ways with Monty Williams, the Suns are now playing to get a new head coach and find the best pieces for their new coach. In a series of proposed trades for every team in the league, Bleacher Report’s Grant Hughes places Draymond Green in Phoenix this upcoming season.

“The idea of reuniting Kevin Durant and Draymond Green might trigger a double-take, but the former teammates squashed their beef long ago. Besides, if we couldn’t send Green to teams that employed players with whom he’d had a verbal or physical altercation, we’d run out of destinations in a hurry,” Hughes wrote. “With Warriors team president Bob Myers looking more and more like a flight risk, it gets easier to imagine the Dubs breaking up their dynastic core. Maybe if Myers walks away, Green picks up his option, back-channels extension discussions with the Suns and joins up with the understanding that a new deal would be in place for 2024-25.

“Deandre Ayton would provide the matching salary, and Green would give the Suns far greater defensive versatility than the former No. 1 pick. Phoenix would still need help on the wings and more overall depth, but perhaps a subsequent Chris Paul trade could provide some of that. Mostly, a Suns team that posted mail-in efforts in its last two playoff eliminations needs someone who’ll never go down without a fight. That’s Green in a nutshell.”

This is an interesting idea that would give the Suns more defense and another floor general if Chris Paul doesn’t end up being traded. The Suns have many options for this summer, and rumors have it they are looking to move both Ayton and Paul this offseason.

Kevin Durant and Devin Booker remain committed to the team, but without the right support, this team can’t do much against the top squads in the West.

Phoenix Suns Must Assemble A Competitive Team After A Disappointing Playoff Run

The Suns have plenty of options to bolster their ranks this offseason, and they could become a serious champíonship favorite with the right moves. They have been linked with DeMar DeRozan in recent days, but it doesn’t seem like fans would support that move.

Phoenix has something interesting on their hands, and if they land the right coach for their players, or vice versa, they will make some noise next season. Adding Green to the roster would be great, but time will tell how this situation plays out for everybody.
