The daredevil told his seven million followers: “Yesterday sucked.

“I broke my elbow 20 years ago and managed to make a full comeback; this recovery for a broken femur will be much harder because of its severity (and my age). But I’m up for the challenge.”

Hawk said he wouldn’t stop skating until he’s unable to.

He posted: “A broken leg – with plenty of hardware – will probably be the biggest test of that creed.”

Hawk vowed he would be back although warned it may not be at the highest level.

The athlete said skateboarding “nourishes” his mental health.

He received dozens of well-wishes online after sharing his injury news.

Professional skateboarder Steve Caballero said: “So good to see you walking with crutches bud.

“You are already on your way to healing and coming back from this, you scared us yesterday ma friend and I happy you are in good hands. God Bless and Love ya (sic).”

Olympian Lizzie Armanto posted: “Noooooo” alongside a crying emoji.

Sportsman David Gonzalez branded Hawk the “greatest” as he wished the legendary skater well.

Hawk is considered to be one of the most influential skateboarders of all time.

He landed the 900 trick – a two-and-a-half-time aerial spin – at the X Games V in 1999 after 10 failed attempts.

Hawk has a video game series named after him and retired from competing professionally in the extreme sport in 2003.
