“Might go for in January” – Journalist now claims Liverpool move for £70m star is “one to watch”

Liverpool “might go for” Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo in January with the deal “one to watch”, journalist Ben Jacobs has told GIVEMESPORT.

What’s the latest news on Moises Caicedo and Liverpool?

Still playing youth football as little as two years ago, Caicedo, who earns a reported £15,000-a-week, could be set for a big-money move with Premier League clubs beginning to circle around the 21-year-old. As per CBS reporter, Ben Jacobs, Chelsea have their eye on the Ecuadorian international with a January deal in mind.

Current Chelsea boss Graham Potter was the man who helped bring Caicedo through the ranks and the pair could be reunited at Stamford Bridge, should the Blues pursue a deal. Chelsea, who currently sit in 10th, were chasing World Cup star Enzo Fernandez, but were unable to agree on a fee with Benfica for the midfielder. It now leaves their midfield options limited and Chelsea could face a bidding war with Liverpool for Caicedo’s signature.

Sky Sports reported that Liverpool, along with Chelsea, are looking to sign Caicedo in January, but any deal with Brighton would be difficult given they’re under no pressure to sell. What’s more, transfer insider Dean Jones recently told GMS that Caicedo was on Liverpool’s “radar”, indicating the interest is genuine.

According to reports from Ecuador, Liverpool have been said to have already submitted a bid for the midfielder, of which was swiftly rejected by Brighton. Caicedo, whose contract runs until the summer of 2025, is believed to be available in January for around a £70m fee. What has Jacobs said about Caicedo and Liverpool?

In an interview with GMS, journalist Jacobs admitted Liverpool were targeting the midfielder, but rubbished any claims a bid had already been made.

“The other one to watch is Moises Caicedo and this is the one Liverpool think they might go for in January,” Jacobs told GMS.

“But contrary to reports, Liverpool have not yet bid for Moises Caicedo. There’s even reports out there that Liverpool have bid twice for Moises Caicedo.

“Liverpool have not bid for Moises Caicedo.”What would Caicedo offer Liverpool?

Given Liverpool’s midfield problems in recent years, there is a feeling Caicedo could be just what the Reds are after. A combative midfielder capable of playing in a variety of positions, Caicedo would not only offer cover to Liverpool’s key players, but also challenge for a starting spot himself.

According to Fbref, Caicedo ranks within the top 16% of players in his position for tackles per 90 minutes – an asset that would be crucial to any Liverpool signing. Put under threat by opposition counter-attacks far too many times this season, the arrival of a player capable of breaking up play could transform Liverpool’s current campaign.
